THPs
Patient education provided for THPs and impact on daily activities via handout containing pictorial/written explanation with inclusion of: L THPs, impact on daily tasks (i.e., no bending during LB dressing or sitting on low surfaces, no crossing legs while sitting, not pointing toes in during turns with RW), use of AE for LB ADLs, proper body mechanics during functional transfers to/from all household surfaces with inclusion of shower chair and car as transfer surfaces. Patient reviewed entire handout during tx session, with all questions/concerns addressed at this time.
Spinal precautions
Patient education provided for spinal precautions and impact on daily activities via handout containing pictorial/written explanation with inclusion of: spinal precautions, impact on daily tasks (i.e., no bending during LB ADLs, no bending to retrieve items from floor, no twisting trunk to reach contralaterally, no lifting >5 lbs over shoulder height during kitchen tasks), use of AE for LB dressing, use of long-handled reacher for item retrieval, proper body mechanics during functional transfers to/from all household surfaces with inclusion of log rolling and car/shower chair as transfer surfaces, and proper body mechanics for reaching objects without twisting. Patient reviewed entire handout during tx session, with all questions/concerns addressed at this time.
Sternal precautions
Patient education provided for sternal precautions and impact on daily activities via handout containing pictorial/written explanation with inclusion of: sternal precautions, impact on daily tasks (i.e., no reaching both arms overhead during dressing or kitchen tasks, not reaching behind back during dressing, not lifting >5-8 lbs during kitchen activities, and not pushing with BUE), use of compensatory strategies for UB dressing to maintain precautions, and proper body mechanics during functional transfers to/from all household surfaces with inclusion of shower chair and car as transfer surfaces. Patient reviewed entire handout during tx session, with all questions/concerns addressed at this time.
HEP UE ROM
Patient educated in R UE self-ROM HEP via handout with pictorial/written cues provided for all deficient joint planes (shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, digits) of motion, engaging in 2 sets x 10 reps after initial education via visual demonstration to demonstrate comprehension.
